G10-Goal Setting
“A lofty goal, as long as his pursuit, will be a feat.”
This famous saying is from William Wordsworth, a well-known British romantic poet. Only by setting our sights high, can we be inspired by the lofty ideals, work hard, forge ahead and finally achieve our dreams.
Embarking on a journey towards a bright future, SCAers will go to famous universities in the world for further study. Before that, SCA will provide guidance and support for students' development in their school lives.
Goal Setting starts this semester! Goal Setting aims to help G10 students understand the features of various international courses and the requirements of choosing majors in famous universities in advance, formulate learning goals and tasks for the new semester, and make choice of further studies.
When entering senior high school, many students will face such a question: Choose A-Level or IB? As mainstream international courses, both of them have their own characteristics and advantages, and both of them are necessary for going to famous universities, so it is best to choose the one that suits them.
As one part of Hwa Chong Family of Schools, SCA shares the common tradition, providing training programs combining A-Level courses and HICS "1+2" IBDP Joint Training Program.
IB courses, lay emphasis on "pursuing life goals", focus on developing intelligence, sensibility, personality and social skills of the students and aim at helping students acquire abilities of studying, working and living in society. By comparison, A-Level courses are more focused on “academic goals”, which require students to choose three or four subjects to specialize in according to their personal interests and aptitudes.
At first, Dr. Hon, the Education Superintendent, guided the SCA teaching team to make assessment of the students, divided them into different learning groups, and guided them to conduct individualized Goal Setting. This week, under the introduction of Dr. He Fei and college counselors, students not only learned more about the two mainstream courses and the application requirements of some famous universities such as Oxford University, University of Cambridge, the G5 group in Britain, the U.S. Ivy League and National University of Singapore, but also began to think about the majors, ideal universities and occupations for their future, and make plans for the next three years according to their previous performance.
Ms. Fiona Wang, Executive Principal, and Ms. Lynn Lin, Head of Middle School, also made personal guidance to the students, encouraging them to explore their own aptitudes and interests and to set goals. With the passage of the school year, students will absolutely be able to set clear goals. Moreover, Goal Setting is a continuous and dynamic process. At key stages such as stage tests and school year summary, subject teachers and college counselors will help students to make a summary and formulate new plans.
